The reasons for setting home study for students are:

  1.  to develop routine study habits;
  2.  to provide opportunity for the practice of sound study
  3.  to allow time for the completion and consolidation of work  commenced in class;
  4.  to assist teachers in assessing:
    •   the effectiveness of their teaching and
    •   student learning outcomes

Homework can be: written work (practice exercises, projects, assignments, writing up notes, etc); reading; study and revision; gathering of data and researching information.  Each student should have a student diary and homework instructions are to be written in this daily

If homework is not completed the classroom teacher in the first instance will use appropriate measures to ensure work is completed e.g. detention, removal of classroom privileges.  If a student continually fails to complete homework, the Head of Department will be consulted.

Students should be expected to engage in homework/study as follows:

  •  Year 8/9 1½ hours per night 5 nights per week
  •  Year 10 2 hours per night
  •  Year 11 3 hours per night
  •  Year 12 3 hours per night
