Who is the Athlete Support Program for?

The program is for any student athletes who attend Cleveland District State High School and are excelling in their chosen sport. Currently we have students in the program from Year 7 through to Year 12.

They must be competing at a State level or higher and have extensive training and competition commitments. These commitments are expected to have significant impact on their schooling and may include extended leave from school for training camps and competitions.

Connecting student athletes to the educational support and resources needed

At Cleveland District State High School we have a rigorous process identifying and supporting advanced students in all fields of study. This also includes supporting our elite student athletes who are excelling in their chosen sport.

Parents, Teachers and School Administration all work together to ensure that our student athletes have the best opportunity to realise their potential for outstanding achievement in both SPORT and EDUCATION without having to sacrifice either.

Flexible solutions for your study needs

The students’ needs will be identified and a suitable study program developed which may include spares, tuition, or an extended program such as completing Senior over 3 years instead of 2 years.

Assessment programs can be arranged or altered for student athletes who are away for extended periods for training or competition.

Athlete Support Program Aims

  • Identify elite students who are excelling in sport.
  • Provide opportunities for young athletes to excel in sport.
  • Support young athletes to maintain their pursuit of excellence in both SPORT and EDUCATION.
  • Provide mentor teacher to liaise with student about study needs and issues as they arise.
  • Develop short term or long term study plans for student athletes as needed.
  • This can include the option of completing their senior education over three years instead of two.
  • Provide access to additional tutoring as needed to ensure they avoid having to make a choice between their SPORT and EDUCATION.
