Enrolment process for 2024

Parents or legal guardians wishing to enrol their student during the 2024 school year in any year level can download an Enrolment Application Form. 

Your completed Enrolment Application, together with all supporting documentation, must be submitted at our front office. Please book an enrolment lodgement appointment at -

  • Enrolment applications for the current school year – 2024 – please book an appointment at your convenience
  • Enrolment applications for 2025 - Year 7 only – lodgement appointments open Term 3
  • Enrolment applications for 2025 - Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 – lodgement appointments open Term 4

All enquiries for enrolments can be sent to enrolments@clevelanddistrictshs.eq.edu.au. Incomplete applications, or applications that are not accompanied by all necessary documentation cannot be accepted.

Once submitted, your completed Enrolment Application and all supporting documentation will be forwarded to our Enrolment Committee.  Most applications will receive a written response regarding the outcome within 5 to 10 working days.  If the enrolment committee require additional information, you will be contacted and this process can extend this timeline.

To assist you in preparing the necessary supporting documentation to include with your application, please read the following information.

COMPULSORY SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION

All enrolment application forms must be accompanied by compulsory documentation to support the application.  Documents must be provided for each applicant, to confirm the child is eligible to attend a State School without paying full fees (as would be the case for fee-paying overseas students).

These documents include:
  • Compulsory Parent or Legal Guardian identification documentation;
  • Compulsory Student identification and reporting documentation;
  • Compulsory Principal Place of Residence documentation;
  • ​Optional - Student Achievement documentation.

Compulsory Parent Identification documentation

Passport, Birth Certificate, Drivers License or Queensland Electoral Commission (www.aec.gov.au) enrolment confirmation for each enrolling parent. 

Compulsory Legal Guardian documentation

a)    Current court orders or other legal document appointing the enrolling adult/s as the legal guardian/s.

b)    Passport, Birth Certificate, Drivers License or Queensland Electoral Commission enrolment confirmation for each enrolling legal guardian. 

Compulsory Student documentation

a)    Birth Certificate (with official translation, if necessary) or current Passport. 

b)     Report Cards – most recent three (3) semesters School Report Cards. 

c)     NAPLAN – most recent NAPLAN report – if applicable. 

If you have misplaced the student's Academic reports or NAPLAN report, please contact the school that issued it, these reports can usually be reissued to you.  Due to privacy laws, CDSHS staff are unable to contact other schools on your behalf. 

Compulsory Principal Place of Residence documentation

CDSHS has a strong commitment to students from the local area.  The documentation parents or legal guardians are required to provide will depend on whether your student meets the in-catchment enrolment criteria or the out-of-catchment area criteria. 

 In-Catchment Enrolment Applications

To be eligible for enrolment under the in-catchment area criteria, parents or legal guardians need to fully demonstrate the student's principal place of residence is genuinely within the defined local catchment map area.   Various documentation to support an in-catchment application is required with each enrolment application. The Enrolment Committee may request any additional documentation and conduct other enquiries deemed necessary to satisfy eligibility criteria.

To be eligible for enrolment under the In-catchment area criteria, parents or legal guardians need to provide each of the following documents: 
  • A current Lease Agreement showing the same residential address as the student and with the parent’s/legal guardian’s name. (Private and/or hand-written rental lease agreements are not accepted) and RTA bond receipt or
  • Unconditional Sale Agreement or Rates Notice showing the same residential address as the student and with the parent’s/legal guardian’s name. (Rates notices showing a different property address and mailing address will not be accepted, including PO Boxes) and
  • ​Three recent utility bills (eg. electricity, gas, telephone or internet) or
  • A current, paid-up home and/or contents insurance policy​

Out-of-Catchment Enrolment Applications.
To be eligible for enrolment under the out-of-catchment area criteria, parents or legal guardians need to provide: 
  • One personal information document – drivers' licence, passport, birth certificate or electoral roll enrolment www.aec.gov.au

Optional - Student achievement documentation

Additional documentation may be provided to support a student's selective entry based on academic, sporting or creative arts merit.  The enrolment committee will consider any additional information provided with an enrolment application. 

DECISION ON ENROLMENT

The Enrolment Committee is responsible for all decisions on out-of-catchment enrolments and their decision on selection will be final.  There is no internal review of the Enrolment Committee's decision.

The Enrolment Committee is responsible for all decisions on enrolments and may request any additional documentation and conduct other enquiries deemed necessary to satisfy eligibility criteria.

Where the Enrolment Committee forms a preliminary view that an application will not satisfy the conditions of enrolment, applicants will be notified in writing.  The applicant may respond to the Enrolment Committees preliminary view by making a written submission to the Executive Principal, no later than ten (10) days after the preliminary view letter was issued.

If no submission is received, the Enrolment Committee's preliminary view will be treated as the final decision and no further notice will be provided.

If a submission is received, the Executive Principal will consider the submission and make a final decision. A final decision notice will be provided to the applicant as soon as is practicable.

There is no review of the Executive Principal's decision.

 

Year 7 Application Process for 2025

As of the 23rd April 2024 all Year 7 enrolments for 2025 application packs will be available from the school front office. The application is required to be accompanied by the current Semester 1 academic report, with all compulsory supporting documentation submitted to our front office.

Incomplete applications, or applications that are not accompanied by all necessary documentation cannot be accepted or processed.

Students who reside outside our catchment area are welcome to submit an enrolment application.  An out of catchment section is provided and is required to be completed for students who reside outside our catchment area.

Cleveland District State High School - Year 6 into 7 Academic Excellence Testing for 2025
 

Cleveland District State High School has a proud tradition of Preparing Students to Meet the Future.  One of the ways we do this is to provide opportunities for students to excel in their chosen pathway.  For students who are extremely motivated and achieve high academic results, we provide an Academic Excellence Program in Year 7 which leads into an Intensive Academic Pathway in Senior, with students selecting general ATAR subjects or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.  The aim of the Year 7 program is to provide these students with learning experiences which challenge their thinking and ensure they have engaging opportunities to bring out their academic best.  Places in this program are limited and are awarded to the students who perform well in the entrance exams, combined with positive effort and behaviour comments on their report cards from their primary school.  These exams are open to families both within and out of our catchment area.

 This year, we will again use Edutest to administer and assess our entrance exams.  Edutest is an Australian educational assessment organisation that provides quality assessments and services to over 100 independent and government schools around the country.  Their team provides thorough diagnostic testing and reporting feedback to parents and students. 
 
The test will take place on Saturday, 18th May at 9am.  It will assess students against a range of skills in numeracy, literacy, reading comprehension and writing.  Families who wish to apply for a place for their student in the Year 7 Academic Excellence program in 2025 are required to register their student for the entrance exam via the following link https://aus.edutest.com.au/D/?t=QZ483WAO  and pay the $88 fee.
 
Registrations close Friday, 10th May. Once registered, we will be in touch with further details about the organisation of the day.  If your student would like to prepare themselves for the test, please visit the Edutest website for practice tests.

 This year, we are pleased to announce that we will award scholarships to the students whose results place them in the top four participants.  The scholarships will cover the annual cost of the Student Resource Scheme for 2025.

 
Sport Development Trials for 2025
